In the summer, I used to visit a friend in Rhode Island and in the evenings we’d catch fireflies in mason jars.  This project reminds me of that.  We’re having a last gasp of heat in California and the kids have been in and out of the pool and the yard, in the dark.  Even if you’re not outside much because the cold is creeping in where you are, you can still do these awesome star jars for huddling under the covers with the kids.  Maybe add it to a dark fort or after story time to calm them down.

What you will need:

  1. Mason jars, spaghetti jars, baby food jars etc.
  2. Glow in the dark paint. Michael’s has it as do most craft and art supply stores
  3. Old toothbrush or small paintbrush to splatter or drip the paint into the jar’s inside
  4. Spray paint if you want to paint the lid of the jar, though this is optional.
You can find a step by step tutorial here at kristy.makes, though it’s pretty straight forward.  I’m thinking this is another great zone out jar idea just like the mind jar from last week.
