Halloween always the same way for me. A few months before Halloween, I think: “This year I’m totally dressing up!” A month before Halloween, I start seeing all the costumes in stores. “I’ve got time. No need to rush it,” I think. Two days before Halloween I am seized with panic because I MUST DRESS UP. And then the rushing around begins. But fear not, here are some easy and creative Halloween costumes you can throw together in no time.
Black Eyed Pea (or Peas!):
This one couldn’t be easier. In fact it’s what my daughter decided to be this year because she thought it was clever. Turns out it’s clever and simple. There are two ways to do this. You can either wear all green (my daughter is wearing green leggings, a green shirt and a green skirt) or simply wear just the green shirt. Use black eyeshadow or dark blue to make a black eye. People will be curious and ask and when you tell them, you’ll get a laugh. My daughter got lots when she went to a Halloween party last night. The other way to do it is above – you are actually the letter P, not the veggie. Both are cute. Pic above: Fresh Picked Whimsey.
Partly Cloudy With a Chance of Rain
Here’s a super easy and funny Halloween costume. You just need a few things. Get some cotton wool and glue it to a baseball cap. Carry a spray water bottle and when people ask what you are, give ‘em a mist and say “Partly cloudy with a chance of rain!” They’ll be sorry they asked. ;-)
I have no idea what to call this costume, but I’m not sure it matters. When I saw this on Pinterest, I flinched. It’s terrifying, but also clever and original. It’s nothing more than a flesh colored zipper attached with spirit gum (available at Walgreens and most costume stores) and some red makeup, like fake blood.
Nightmare Before Christmas Shirt (or skull shirt)
This cute and easy to make costume reminds me of the Nightmare Before Christmas. You can find directions here from Cut Out and Keep.
