One of my favorite things to do is to take off my eye makeup with baby oil just enough that I look like a zombie and then stagger after the kids. They think this is simultaneously hilarious and terrifying.  I wear a lot of mascara, so I do a pretty good zombie. In any case, I have tried all kinds of eye makeup removers. Some of them sting, some of them are too expensive, some of them are so greasy I can barely see when I’m done. It seems like you get very little too, the bottles are always so small. So when I saw a recipe for making my own, I jumped on it. (Recipe adapted from adelynStone)

With just a few ingredients you can make your own eye makeup remover.

You will need:

  1. 1 Cup Water
  2. 1 1/2 Tablespoon baby shampoo (tearless, like Johnsons or something similar)
  3. 1/8 th Teaspoon of coconut oil (I got mine at Whole Foods, couldn’t find it at Safeway)

Directions:

I have seen this done with baby oil or mineral oil and I happened to have coconut oil on hand and wanted to try using it. Because coconut oil comes more like a paste, you’ll want to drop the 1/8 of a teaspoon into a warm cup of water; that will dissolve it. Add the baby shampoo, whisk it up and pour into a bottle. I used an old lotion bottle and washed it out very well. I added a label to it so I’d remember what it was and…presto!

This yields about 10 oz or so of eye makeup remover which is far more than those little bottles available at the store.
