In attempting to dump my frump, I changed my hair color this month.  I have been messing with my hair color since I was old enough to save my babysitting money for a bottle of Sun-In.  I could not leave well enough alone.  My ash blonde hair, also described by hair professionals as “dirty blonde” or “dishwater blonde” (thanks guys) was drab to say the least.  So it’s always been a bit lighter than ash blonde thanks to highlights, assorted box colors and so on.

A few weeks ago I thought, oh I’ve never tried going darker.  I’ll try that.  Instead of going to a professional (which I’d advise) I got a box from Target and went for it.  It was too dark and washed me out.  I missed the blonde, but didn’t want to bleach my hair to get back to the blonde. I had read a little about Color Oops, a hair color remover (doesn’t bleach, just strips the most recent color out of your hair) and the review were very good.

Here’s my before and after.  Neither are with great lighting, but both were taken the same day.

Here are a few tips/things to keep in mind:

  • - You can use color oops more than once.  So if your hair is very dark then you can use Color Oops twice in a row and not hurt your hair, though you’ll want to use a really good conditioner afterwards.
  • - You can recolor the same day, though use caution and read all the instructions regarding this.
  • - Open a window.  The smell is like rotten eggs mixed with decomposing bodies.  Not that I know anything about the latter, thank God, but you get the idea.
  • - Take their rinsing instructions seriously.  It WILL re-darken if you don’t rinse the full 20 minutes.

As a fellow blonde who also once tried going dark I totally understand. I went pretty drastically to full on brunette. I didn’t even recognize myself when I walked past a mirror. I wish I had known about this product then!

I am a dark blonde, and I dyed my hair bright red, and it was hard to keep up with it. I saw this at Wal-Mart and I was like “what the hell, I will give this a try,” and it totally went back to my blonde, I was shocked because the stylist told me I need to wait till the red falls out it self because nothing would work and if she worked on my hair it would damage it. This product is from heaven and I got my normal blonde hair back. And I can say, I will always come to this if I ever do a mistake again, though the smell is horrible but it’s worth everything.
