I saw this yesterday on Pinterest via the New York Times.  I recently took a three day trip to Chicago and as usual packed foolishly.  I generally don’t pack enough or pack the wrong things, or, in an attempt to not forget anything, pack a bag that is WAY too large.  The NYT featured this awesome tutorial from Heather Poole, a savvy flight attendant who shows us that with a few tricks, you can get 10 days worth of clothing in a single carry-on.

Yep! All that is going in one carry-on bag. Img: NYT

How does she do it?  ”Folded clothing takes up too much space. Instead, Ms. Poole tightly rolls everything, which also minimizes wrinkling. This suitcase will hold three pairs of shorts, three pairs of dress pants, one skirt, three pairs of casual pants or jeans, three nightgowns, three bathing suits, one sarong, three lightweight sweaters, four dresses, 10 casual shirts, six dress shirts, a clutch, toiletries and two pairs of shoes. She’ll wear the third pair of shoes, as well as jeans and a longer sweater.” – NYT

The only thing I might do differently is carry my toiletries with me in a separate tote, so I can access them easily for going through security.  And also because on longer flights it gives me access to makeup or other toiletries.

See the entire slide show tutorial (and it’s amazing how much she packs in there) here.
